Parking on Orange Avenue Bike Lane
It was brought to the attention of the Tallahassee Police Department that several of our parents were parking in the bike lane on Orange Avenue when dropping off or picking up students. It is unlawful for vehicles to drive or obstruct designated bike lanes.
I understand that parents have utilized the parking on Orange Avenue for years; however, safety is our priority and I highly encourage you to utilize our car drop off/pickup area each school day. The Tallahassee Police Department or Sheriff’s Department has the authority to ticket any vehicle in violation of obstructing (parking) a bike lane.
The Tallahassee Police Department does not want to issue tickets and they have asked that I communicate this information to you immediately.
Please understand that Leon County Schools has no authority over the roadway and I am simply communicating to you what has been communicated to me.
Thanks so much for understanding.
